Re-Review: Payless Xtra Big Pancit Canton Original

Oh man I thought this was a new one! I reviewed this at #93! Here’s something from the Philippines! Been awhile since a review from there. Pancit Canton reminds me a lot of Indonesia’s Mi Goreng; the noodles are drained and then stirred with the dry and wet ingredients and served. Let’s try this one out!

The back of the package (click image to enlarge).

The noodle block – big for Pancit Canton instant, but then again this is XTRA BIG!

Powder seasoning.

Lots of it.

Soy sauce and oil.

I like how the soy and oil’s syrface tensions make things look.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some veggies, a couple scrambled eggs with Cavender’s Greek Seasoning, some roast beef and some Dua Belibis chili sauce. This stuff is excellent! The noodles are chewy and the flavoring coasts nice and has a sweet and salty taste. Not really spicy as Mi Goreng usually is. If you want to like Mi Goreng but can’t handle the heat, this would be an excellent alternative! 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – still amazingly good since review #93! UPC bar code 4800016555992 .

#640: Master Kong Artificial Spicy Beef Flavor Instant Noodle

Sadly, this is last of the Master Kong varieties sent to me by Chad B. of Highland, Illinois – thanks again Chad – your stickers went out in the mail yesterday!

Package back (click image top enlarge).

Three packets – liquid base at top, veggies lower right and powder seasoning lower left.

Here’s everything waiting for the boiling water.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added two fried eggs with a little Cavender’s Greek seasoning, some bok choy, a slice of processed cheese and a few dashes of Texas Pete hot sauce. Rad stuff. The noodles were of good quality and very nice. The broth was spicy and a hint of sweet – just perfect. The extras added a fullness to the meal. All in all, very excellent! 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! ‘Master Kong’ translates to Confucius. Here’s a biography about Confucius.

It snowed more!

#636: Yamamori Tom Yam Ramen Pork Flavor(Tomyankun Ramen Porkfu)

After tasting those last two earlier, I was ready to have something that looked really good – and here it is! Tom Yam noodles, made in Thailand and from Japan!

Here’s the back of the packaging (click image to enlarge). I boiled an egg in with the noodles last time, but today I thought a couple fried eggs would go nicely.

Some noodles – look pretty standard. They had a little flavor.

Powder on the left and seasoned oil on the right.

As above, seasoning on the left and seasoned oil on the right. A lot of powder here!

Click image to enlarge. Alrighty it’s done woo hoo! I made two eggs with a little Cavender’s All-Purpose Greek seasoning. I also added some Kizami Shoga (pickled ginger) and finally, some fried shallots – this time some fresh ones (thanks Greg B.!).  The noodles were perfect – reminiscent of the kind you’d find in Momofuku Ando‘s flagship Chikin ramen from 1958, just an exponentially milder taste. The broth is spicy and full of citrus. It’s perfect pork tom yam flavor – loved it. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars – wonderful! UPC barcode 4903101701356 .

#629: Master Kong Artificial Braised Beef Flavor Instant Noodle

Thanks again to Chad B. of Highland, Illinois for sending these Master Kong packs! Braised beef eh? Hmmm I wonder how this will be – if the Pork one was any indicator, I’m going to like this!

Here’s the back of the packaging (click image to enlarge). Kind of hard to read – and no exact amount of water to use – I went with 500cc this time.

Clockwise from top left – veggies, powdered seasoning and finally liquid base.

Everything sitting peacefully awaiting the 500cc of water.

Finished (click image to enlarge)! Two egg omelet with Tabasco Buffalo Style hot sauce and Cavender’s Greek Seasoning. Well, I’m really happy to say 500cc of water was perfect. The noodles are tasty – not real chewy but not mushy or soggy in the least. The broth is really quite amazing; it has a hint of spiciness, some sweetness and is full of deep beef flavor. The veggies are pretty good – really round it out. This was very good – quite impressed with such a ho hum package design. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars! UPC barcode number is 705105920191.
