#866: Master Kong/康师傅 Mianba Instant Noodle Soup

This is the last of the packs that were so kindly sent by Bo H. who works at a University in China. Thanks again! All of these were just amazing – and now… Hmm – not sure what this is! One thing says pork ribs flavor, something else says steak. I guess we’ll see how it comes out!

Here’s the back of the package (click to enlarge).

The noodle block.

Powder seasoning.

Light, fine powder – a lot of it.

Paste seasoning.

Smells really good!

Veggies.

Nice looking mixture.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added some frozen stir-fry vegetables (yeah need to get to the produce stand soon) and a couple shakes of Krazy Mixed Up Salt. the noodles are good – seem to be a slightly wider gauge than usual and have a nice texture and chew. The broth has a nice spiciness to is and a good meaty flavor. Expected it to be slightly thick and greasy but it wasn’t. A nice pepperiness to is. The vegetables were good too – nice re-gydration. I liked it! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6903252710564 .

Master Kong TV commercial.

If you want to see something amazin, check this out. This is a documentary caslled ‘China’s Mega Dam’ – the story of the Three Gorges Project. It’ll blow your mind as to the sheer size of this undertaking!

#821: Master Kong/康师傅 Potatoes & Stewed Beef Instant Noodles

This rather unassuming package of ramen came from Bo H. of China. I don’t know if this is exactly what this is called, but I hope it comes close to its name in taste. Potatoes aren’t something commonly found when it comes to instant noodles; there’s sweet potato noodles and potato noodles, but really nothing that involved potato flavor.

The back of the packaging (click image to enlarge).

Was originally a round block it appears.

The powder seasoning.

Lots of powder.

The paste packet.

I had a little taste – it definitely has a peanut component.

A small packet of bits and pieces…

Very small amount but we’ll see…

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added vegetables, some roast beef lunch meat and some Huy Fong Sriracha chili sauce. So the noodles are nice and plump. The broth and noodles come together masterfully and this honestly tastes so good I’m going to say I’m truly sad I don’t have any more of it! It literally tastes like a dish centering on beef and potatoes. I love it. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars – hands down awesome stuff. The bits and pieces weren’t bad either although very scant. Tai Chi?

#812: Master Kong/康师傅 Spicy Beef

Spicy beef! This was sent by Bo H. of China! Thanks again! These have all been a lot of fun and quite good! Let’s see how Master Kong’s Spicy Beef goes.

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks like they grow big peppers in china.

The block broke but not too badly.

Powdered base.

A decent amount of powder – tasty!

Seasoned oil.

Has a beefish smell.

The veggie packet – more of an herb packet it looks like.

I think the red pieces are chillies. Not sure about the other bits.

Finished (click image to enlarge). I added some onions, broccoli and re bell pepper, a slice of processed cheese, a fried egg and some of that awesome Dua Belibis hot sauce. The noodles are good – they suck up a lot of liquid and are tasty to boot. The broth is nice too – had a spicy and sweet taste to it and the beef flavor is very good. I like this a lot – 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 6903252061024 .

Yes! Awesome commercial!

This is awesome – these guys aren’t screwing around with these noodles!

#795: Master Kong Red Oil Dan Dan Noodles

Here’s another one that Bo H. sent me from China! Thanks again! So what are Dan Dan noodles? here’s what Wikipedia says:

Dandan noodles or Dandanmian (traditional Chinese: 擔擔麵, simplified Chinese: 担担面) is a classic dish originating from ChineseSichuan cuisine. It consists of a spicy sauce containing preserved vegetables (often including zha cai, 榨菜, lower enlarged mustard stems, or ya cai, 芽菜, upper mustard stems), chili oil, Sichuan pepper, minced pork, and scallions served over noodles.

Alrighty then, let’s give it a try!

I cut and pasted all the text from the lid and scanned it. Click to enlarge.

Hey – chopsticks!

Here’s the big packet of spicy paste.

That’s a lot of goopy stuff – looks spicy!

The vegetables.

Looks like a nice little bunch of veggies.

Then there’s this little pouch with little hard things in it…

I ate one and I think they get sprinkled on top at the end.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Interesting… This one was fun to try; I’m really looking forward to these Master Kong’s as they’re huge in China and these aren’t available around this neck of the woods, that’s for sure. The noodles aren’t bad, – there’s a lot of them too. The flavor is a little bit spicy and a bit greasy. The veggies are nice. The only problem here is it seems kind of bland to me. Could use a little more flavor I think. 2.75 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 6903252084818 .
