Meet The Manufacturer: Re-Review: TTL Spring Chicken With Hua-Diao Liquor Instant Noodle – Taiwan

Meet The Manufacturer: #3032: TTL Spring Chicken With Hua-Diao Liquor Instant Noodle - Taiwan

I thought I ought to start at the beginning. I’m pretty sure this and the rice wine spring chicken varieties are the first that TTL shared with the world and it just made sense to go with those to begin Meet The Manufacturer. Here’s a little about Shaoxing wine, featured in this variety from Wikipedia –

Shaoxing wine (Shaohing, Shaoshing) is one of the most famous varieties of huangjiu, or traditional Chinese wines, fermented from rice. It originates from the region of Shaoxing, in the Zhejiang province of eastern China. It is widely used as both a beverage and a cooking wine in Chinese cuisine. It is internationally well known and renowned throughout mainland China, as well as in Taiwan and Southeast Asia.[1]

Let’s give this one a try!

This is one I was sent by Daniel of Exotic Noods, a subscription service specializing in instant noodles. I should note that this was something special he put in after a recent trip to Taiwan – thanks again! So these are manufactured by Wei Lih for TTL. TTL stands for Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor. Tobacco and liquor – what?! Indeed, this is a boozy noodle. It contains rice wine, something apparently that goes well in noodles and cooking. Ireviewed the bowl version of this a few weeks back.

Just to clarify when I get the question, this one won’t be found at your local Asian grocery store here in the United States. Ever. Well, unless there’s a huge shift in things as far as what’s allowed entry into the United States. First, it’s got chicken in it – real chicken. It’s near impossible to get real chicken imported into the USA from Southeast Asia. Second, it wouldn’t surprise me if people here would have a tizzy fit that kids would buy 20 of these packs and guzzle down the wine, the concerned parents would have a fit, and government inquiries would go crazy. It’s unfortunate as that’s just kind of how it works here.

Anyways, I think it’s time to open up this bowl. So let’s do it! Indeed, it’s time to try TTL noodles!

Lots of liquid and chicken.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion and Salad Cosmo mung bean sprouts. The noodles are soft and bountiful; indeed, a lot of them. The broth is really nice – a nice chicken taste with the wine and oil – works extremely well. The chicken is of good quality and tastes, well… Like chicken! Everything went together nicely, as expected. 4.75 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 4710199108963.
