#1203: GaGa Mie Gepeng Kuah Rasa Soto Cabe Hijau

Another one that was sent from Indonesia – thank you! Soto varieties usually have a broth with them, rather than mi goreng which are dry. Cabe means chilli and hijau means green; so green chilli flavor noodle soup. Let’s check it out!

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. Noodles in 350cc boiling water for 3 minutes, then mix with contents of the sachets.

The noodles traveled far and no here’s one of the larger chunks.

The dry seasoning sachet.

Has a rich scent.

Seasoned oil on left and green chilli paste on right.

The green chilli scent is strong.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added sweet onion, hard boiled egg, lime and baked chicken with Lindberg-Snider Red Baron BBQ seasoning. The noodles are of a wider gauge than your standard instant. They have a nice bounce to them and a good chew. The broth has a little green chilli flavor, a little chicken flavor and a little heat from other spices along with an onion flavor thrown in. The broth isn’t overly oily and tastes nice. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8888327831840.

#1175: Healtimie Green Barley Noodle Milk Chicken Soup

Here’s something new – green barley noodles. I’ve had noodles that were green from a myriad of ingredients before (wonder if someday there’ll be blue?). These are supposed to be for the health conscious. Let’s check ’em out!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat-free but look for yourself.

A green noodle block.

The soup base sachet.

Contains non-dairy creamer.

The solid ingredient sachet.

Interesting myriad of bits and pieces.

The liquid sachet. Chili sauce on left, seasoned oil on right.

A thick sauce and thin seasoned oil.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added Walla Walla sweet onion, red, yellow, and orange bell pepper, hard boiled egg and baked chicken with garlic salt. The noodles are interesting; they’re broad and flat and have an interesting texture. Aside from being green, the oddness ends – they have a nice taste. The broth is great – milky and has a nice balance of spiciness and chicken flavor. As far as health minded instants go, this is probably the best I’ve tried. 4.25 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 8888327831093.

In the last day, lots of people have been coming to The Ramen Rater from Indonesia! One person who commented via the facebook page said”you should try this one fried noddle, it has black pepper flavour. will not disappoint you :)” (for those wondering, this is friend black pepper chicken flavor noodles).  I looked through the box of varieties my friend in Jakarta sent me and lo and behold, I had it in there! Thank you very much! Let’s check this one out!

These noodles are a little wider than most I’ve seen from Indonesia.

The dry powder packets. Chili powder on the left, seasoning base on the right.

Here you see the red chili powder atop the seasoning base.

The liquid ingredients packet.

Shallot oil and sweet soy sauce.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added fried egg, Vidalia sweet onion, red bell pepper and sauteed beef. The noodles are flatter and broader than most Indonesian varieties. They have a nice chew and texture. The flavor is great – a strong black pepper component along with a sweet and salty chicken and sweet soy flavor. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8888327831871.
