Meet The Manufacturer: #1431: Maggi Extra Spicy Curry Instant Noodles

Two of my favorite things are well represented on the front of this pack: spiciness and curry. I’ve been really curious about trying Maggi Extra Spicy Curry ever since I received some samples – how spicy is it? On a signed poster they sent, the marketing team at Maggi sent the dare ‘can you handle the hotness?’ I’m definitely keen on finding out today!

Something else interesting is the term ‘shiok.’ They mention that this is geared to give the person who eats it a feeling of ‘shiok.’ Well, what does that mean? Shiok basically is an exclamation – you might have a really great bowl of noodles and say ‘wow – these noodles are really shiok!’ Urban Dictionary said it is a way to express pleasure and happiness. Let’s have a look inside and see if I get a first-hand feeling of shiok with these noodles, and see how spicy they are.

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, add the noodle block and soup base sachet to 450ml boiling water and cook for 2 minutes. Sprinkle contents of garnish sachet over the noodles and enjoy!

Fried onion – very nice!

My son Andy and I took an early walk to the Asian grocery store to get some things for this Meet The Manufacturer. The weather as of late has gotten really hot for this area. Today it’s supposed to hit 93 degrees. It’s not even noon yet and it’s pretty warm in our new apartment. Alas, the dog days of summer are upon us.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added lemongrass and chilli infused fried tofu, hard boiled egg, fresh basil and chicken sauteed with BonCabe Level 10 chilli seasoning and soy sauce, and sliced green onion. The noodles have a very nice gauge and are done nicely after two minutes. They have a good chewiness and quality. The curry broth is strong and spicy. The term ‘extra spicy’ is definitely earned here – my lips are still burning after ten minutes! It comes on slow and builds to a good heat. The curry flavor is very nice and balances well with the heat, and the onion garnish is a real treat. I guess now is when I say shiok! 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 9556001210425.
