#1323: Golden Wheat Korean Style Mushroom Chicken Flavour Cooking Noodle

This is one I got for my birthday last year when my wife took me to Canada – thank you, Kit! I’m going to be blunt: I don’t have high hopes on this one. These Golden Wheat varieties are pretty good, as they’re JML products in camouflage. As you can see from this JML Mushroom Chicken bowl, the sachets are identical. Don’t get me wrong – I’ve really enjoyed a lot of the Golden Wheat and JML varieties, but I really didn’t like the Mushroom Chicken previously. Time to see if this one warrants a low score or if it’s a pleasant surprise. It’s go time.

Here’s the back of this rather large package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free but check for yourself. To prepare, boil a whopping 700ml water. Add the noodle block and all the sachet contents. Cook for 5-6 minutes and enjoy. I should also note that there are ‘spaghetti cooking directions’ on the back of this poackage as well – basically boil the noodles for 5-6 minutes in 700ml water, drain and then use your favorite pasta sauce.

The mammoth noodle block. This is the largest noodle block that I’ve ever seen on the market. This is the same in all of the golden Wheat pack varieties I’ve seen.

The powder seasoning sachet.

The powder has a very odd ‘off-scent.’

The liquid sachet.

A thick chicken color liquid.

The vegetables sachet.

Cabbage, scallion and mushroom.

Finished (click image top enlarge). Added peas, carrots, gilled chicken and corn. The noodles aren’t bad. I can see how they’re trying to go towards the ramyun style, however they’re a little too glutenous and gooey for that. Nonetheless, they’re not bad. The broth has a very artificial chicken flavor, although it kind of grew on me, then did the opposite. I mean, there’s so much of it! The vegetables hydrated well. If you want an enormous bowl of noodles, this is it, bar none. 2.0 out of 5.0 stars.UPC bar code 6921555586181.

As I said above, Golden Wheat is made by JML. Nothing better than rescuing people with instant noodles – hurrah!
