#1281: Tokachimen Koubou Jet Black Sesame Oil Pork Tonkotsu

This one came by way of Courtnay N. of British Columbia, Canada – thanks! Got help translating from Scott A. – thank you! This looks like an interesting one – let’s check it out!

Here are the side panels (click image to enlarge). Contains pork. To prepare, add noodle block and dry sachet to bowl. Fill to line with boiling water for 4 minutes. Add liquid sachets and stir.

The noodle block.

A liquid sachet.

Tonkotsu base?

A very dark liquid sachet.

Black stuff!

The dry seasoning sachet.

Veggies and a thin slice of pork.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added hard boiled egg and green onion. The noodles are good – very light and a decent gauge. A little less chewy than I expected. The broth is very rich. Has a nice pork flavor, but it’s very greasy; almost a little overboard. The pork piece was nice, but underwhelming. Ended up leaving most of the broth in the bowl. I think it may have been much better sans black sachet. 2.25 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 4533773250632.

Wow this guy deserves a pat on the back for such an amazing feat. Just don’t do it right after he’s eaten 12 packs of ramen noodles!

  1. These noodles are related to the 2011-2012 edition of the annual Japanese new-year comedy special of the show Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende (its logo is on the bowl’s lid) where 5 comedians are bombarded with pranks while being forbidden to laugh (laughing results in an ass whooping). They have a drawer gag each year, where the 5 comedians have bureaus and need to open drawers, and during one of these drawer gags they revealed 5 of these ramens (without the Gaki no Tsukai ya Arahende logo).
