Welcome to the newest Meet The Manufacturer! To kick things off, an interview with Hedy Jarwono, the US distributor of ABC President instant noodle products.
THE RAMEN RATER> Thank you for doing this interview! I’m excited to learn that your products are now available in the United States! Can you start by telling me a little bit about ABC’s history – how did you start?
ABC PRESIDENT> ABC is been in business for about 30 years in Asia. We see the opportunities in America. So we want to capture American, Canada and other Market.
TRR> For my readers who aren’t familiar with your product lines, can you tell a little about them?
ABC PRESIDENT> Our product is very tasty and comes with different Seasoning. We use good quality wheat flour. When you eat it you can taste the difference. We add fork to make it easy and convenient for our customer.
TRR> ABC is made in Indonesia. Can you tell us whom haven’t visited before a little about Indonesia?
ABC PRESIDENT> We make our noodles in Indonesia. Indonesia is a big country with its own natural resources. The Island Bali is very popular in the world. Indonesia is famous for its fried noodles (Mie gorEng). Any noodles from Indonesia are good.
TRR> What made you decide to expand and sell your noodles in other countries?
ABC PRESIDENT> Instant noodles are very popular all over the world. Anybody and everybody love noodles. We try to be in every Country.
TRR> You make a broad range of flavors of instant noodles – are there any new varieties that will be released in the United States and abroad soon?
ABC PRESIDENT> We have 10 flavors now. We are coming up with Teriyaki, Soto and grilled chicken flavor.
TRR> Any plans on opening an ABC plant here in the future?
ABC PRESIDENT> We are looking into opening plant here in USA. Hopefully in the next 5 years.
TRR> What was the very first variety of ABC noodles?
ABC PRESIDENT> The very first Flavor was Chicken soup.
TRR> Are you involved in the local community?
ABC PREESIDENT> We try to get involved with our Local Community, but we are working in getting our non-profit organization approved. So we can be more involved.
TRR> How many packs and cups of instant noodles do you make every year?
ABC PRESIDENT> The factory right now makes about 3 million pack and 4 million cups a year.
TRR> Have you ever thought about varieties like macaroni and cheese or pizza flavored instant noodles for foreign markets?
ABC PRESIDENT> I don’t thinK Macaroni and cheese flavor will sell. Maybe I will do a test and find out in the future.
TRR> Many of your products are sold in cups. Have you heard about the recent stories about cups tipping over, and if so, what do you think about that?
ABC PRESIDENT> We try to address the issue about tip over cup, I had some ideas but the cup factory cannot make the shape of cup that we want to.
TRR> Which are your personal favorite varieties of ABC and what (if anything) do you add to them?
ABC PRESIDENT> The Spicy Chicken and Chicken Curry is the Best Flavor.
TRR> What kind of reaction have your products gotten in the United States?
ABC PRESIDENT> Customers like our product here. They like the flavor. A lot of people like local ramen noodles but after they try our product they can see the difference.
TRR> Why the name ABC?
ABC PRESIDENT> ABC is a very easy name to remember.
TRR> Any chance some of the products sold in Indonesia that aren’t sold in the US will be eventually?
ABC PRESIDENT> We will try because some flavor are unique and they might not like it here.
