#1112: MAMA Oriental Style Instant Kua-Chap Clear Soup

Another one that was donated by a friend in Indonesia – thank you! So this is something very different – kua chap. It looks like from the package, these are like large tube noodles, although it does not seem that way from the way this package feels. It’s thin and flat – hmmm… Let’s have a look!

The importer’s sticker (in Indonesian as it’s from Thailand and imported there).

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). Looks to be meat free.

Here are some of the ‘noodles.’  They’re made of rice flour. I wonder if they curl into that tube shape during the cooking? Hmmm…

The dry seasonings packets – chili powder on the left and soup base on the right.

Chili powder atop the seasoning base.

Hey – garlic oil!

Has a pungent garlic scent.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added red bell pepper, Vidalia sweet onion and hard boiled egg. The noodles were really fascinating as they rolled right up from their previously squarish flat state. They are light and very mellow with very little chew to them. The broth is a blend of spicy and strongly herbed which is nicely made richer with the addition of the garlic oil. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8851876006014.

Here’s a short segment on how to cook this Kua Chap.
