#634: Baijia Sichuan Hot Pot Flavor Instant Sweet Potato Thread

This one was sent by Michelle L. of New York! Unfortunately, for this one I have exceedingly low expectations. Every Baijia product I’ve tried has been just plain gross in my opinion.

Hey – a fork!

Thick liquid seasoning starting on left, powder seasoning in the middle and finally beans on the right.

Otis Pug and Daisy Pug are out cold…

So they cannot be held responsible for that vile looking thing.

Finished (click image to enlarge). While this was pretty horrible, it wasn’t as horrible as I expected. First, the noodles were not too bad themselves; they weren’t as clumpy as usual. The broth was all but gone and the bean things were as funky and odd as always. The problem as with all of the Baijia products I’ve tried thus far was the flavor. First, it’s spicy – nothing wrong with that, but it’s like a ridiculously strong black pepper kind of spicy. Also, it’s very salty  too. All in all, I felt a little funky after eating a couple of bites – I deem this non-palatable. 0.5 out of 5.0 stars. UPC barcode 6926410321341 – get the pack version here.

That’s more like it!

Yeah that’s a lot of saice!

  1. I personally find it insulting that you call “certain” instant noodles “disgusting, vile, gross” etc

IF, and that is a mega IF, you’re such a “ramen rator” then you would give your opinion in a respectful, classy and dignified way, instead of insulting/attacking the company and it’s people.

I say the above because i believe that everyone should be respectful of all cultures.

  2. Okay so there should be somewhere with pictures of a bowl and directions. There’s gonna be a number like 400, 500, or 550. That’s tyhe amount of water to use in milliliters. Then a small number which will be minutes – 3-5 I imagine. What you do is put all ingredients in a bowl, add boiling water and cover for a few minutes. Instant noodles are called instant because you don’t have to cook them on a stove.

    Hope this helps!

  3. Yeah, sounds like you don’t appreciate or know Sichuan spices. This is a nearly perfect yet instant recreation of those flavors, complete with the distinctive Sichuan “peppercorn” sensation and tingle on one’s tongue.

  4. To be honest, BAIJIA noodles are of a completely different category than all other instant noodles. Similar to Pho, it’s a local dish in Sichuan, and the instant version of it needs a pretty special water temperature and cooking time.
After all it’s like Vegemite, maybe it’s just not for you…. but the noodles aren’t of low quality, it’s just how it intends to be and needs to be in that dish….

    1. Hello –

I’ve had people say things along these lines to me before, and all I have to say is that I couldn’t stand them. I found them to be absolutely putrid and disgusting. But that’s just my opinion; I’m sure many people enjoy them – why else would they continue to make them? I don’t like the flavor, broth or noodles and that’s why they get such a low score. I guess I wouldn’t like Sichuan cuisine either.
