#532: Doll Instant Noodle Spicy Tonkotsu Flavour

Thanks to Nathan R. of Vancouver, Canada, I have this wonderful package of noodles that I will be devouring shortly. Was sure I’d had every variety of the Doll line but apparently I haven’t – I think maybe this one just isn’t distributed in the USA.

NOTE: So I got a comment – I had put Tonkatsu instead of Tonkotsu – ” Tonkatsu and tonkotsu are two different Japanese dishes, the former being breaded, fried pork cutlets, similar to German schnitchel, and the latter is a variety of ramen with a broth made from boiled pork bones.” – JP Hays. Thanks for the heads up! Had no clue of the error of that it would make such a difference!

Standard pair of packets – liquid on the left and powder on the right.

Looks good to me. You might notice – I got a new bowl! Actually I bought three new bowls today at a store called Daiso at the mall. Most of the stuff there is $1.50 – including this bowl! Got another $1.50 bowl and a $5.00 one.

This is pretty awesome – how to make miniature food out of polymer clay.

  1. I just thought I’d let you know, you made a mistake in the title. You put down that this is spicy tonkatsu flavor. It is actually spicy tonkotsu flavor. Tonkatsu and tonkotsu are two different Japanese dishes, the former being breaded, fried pork cutlets, similar to German schnitchel, and the latter is a variety of ramen with a broth made from boiled pork bones.

I apologize if my response sounds pedantic. I just thought you’d like to know. Love the site, BTW! 🙂

  2. Aaah! Reading your blog is torture because everything looks so good. Unfortunately im typing this from my hospital room (they have wifi here) and im on a clear liquid diet. The watered down sodium free chicken broth they’ve been giving me doesnt compare to that tasty bowl of noodles. Once I get outta here someday, im gonna make a bowl of noodles like that and its gonna be delicious. Not until then will my life be complete!

Oh, how I long for the Doll Artificial Tonkatsu flavored noodles! Oh, ramen noodles, how elusive you are. We will be together someday 🙁

Hey RR, you should plan a vacation to the ramen noodle museum in japan!

    1. Hey man –

Was wondering if you ended up in there – hadn’t seen any comments lately! Can they at least put in some artificial seasonings in that broth? Perhaps some curry or galangal?
Sent you a package yesterday – hoping it gets to you soon – sent it USPS priority so should be about 3 days – Thursday or Friday if not sooner.

So they say how long til you might be hittin the noods again?

      1. Haha, yeah right, the old people here I think complain because everything tastes “too salty”. The only thing they serve here is sodium free. However I brought my 5-way spice shaker with me, a variety of instant broth packets, AND my little water boiler. One should always be well prepared to make a bowl of soup :-)..unfortunately I might need surgery though so its no noodles for now….but im being patient. Your blog will have to suffice for now for my noodle fix.

  3. Been really enjoying your blog RR. We have a Chinese grocer called Ranch 99 here that carries a lot of odd noodle packs from around Asia. Love the packaging of them all. Usually can’t go wrong with Tonkotsu flavor though.

  4. DAISO IS KING!!! Are you just now aware of this wonderous shop? Oh, how I miss hearing their Asian technopop as I shop for cheap shower curtains, fuzzy legwarmers, and WEIRD FOOD, including, but certainly not limited to, the Earl Grey Tea hard candies. Everyone in my office, and on my bus had incredibly delicious-smelling breath that day. VIVE LE DAISO!!!
