#497: Nissin Demae Iccho Instant Macaroni In Soup Seafood And Abalone Flavour

My sister brought these back for me from Canada a while back and I’ve been coveting them for a special occasion. I thought closing in on the 500th review would be a good time to break out the tippy macaroni! So here we go!

On the left we have a liquid packet and on the right some powdered seasoning.

Certainly looks just like regular macaroni doesn’t it? Seafood and abalone sure aren’t flavors you’d expect to have with macaroni over here in the states! Maybe cheese or white cheese or a casserole or something. Predominately cheese for sure – but seafood? Awesome!

The sauce packet was what looked like oil and soy sauce. The powder was simply a powder base.

The flavor was very nice – not too salty, not too seafoody. A very tasty meal indeed, although kind of tough to keep on the fork – perhaps because of the oil? Anyways, I really liked this alot! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars!

Lucky Me! brand is a brand of Monde Nissin (Nissin Worldwide) and since I couldn’t find anything else, went with this commercial.

I can’t resist adding a short about BBSes… I ran one for quite a few years back in the late 80’s early 90’s…

  1. Well, there are a couple asian markets near where I live, but unfortunately because im disabled I cant go myself. I could ask my parents to go (im 19) but since everything is written in other languages i dont think they would have a clue as to what to buy since I can only eat specific stuff. Thats why im always looking for good places online to buy ramen, but most only carry the fried stuff or have a really limited selection.

      1. Wow, really? You’ve adapted really well, then – thats great. You certainly use computers really well (i remember in one review you said you were studying for some technical exam or something?)

And at least our taste buds seem to be in full working order, eh? Umami receptors for the win!

  2. thats funny, thats exactly where i got it from! i had the salt sampler. but they do sell empty 5-way shakers. and yeah, i have been obsessed with ramen lately! i dunno why. noodles have always been my favorite food. every morning i get my daily dose of ramen reviews..lol

i would LOVE to be able to go to one of those huge stores with hundreds of types of ramen! heaven!

  3. yeah, it certainly would be more expensive, but i guess id be paying for convenience. i like how on some ingredient lists in other countries they actually tell you the percentage of the ingredient, unlike here how they just list it by greatest to least amount.

also, whenever i eat a mama clear soup, since ive only been using like half the packet, ive been saving it in a little 5-way spice shaker i have. that and the chili spice. its like every 3 soups i get one free! (i supply the rice noodles though).

they have these really neat spice shakers that have different compartments in them, and i have one dedicated for ramen. that way you dont need a bunch of different spice containers. i got chili, msg, broth mixture, salt, and ginger in one.

    1. Wow I like the idea of the 5 spice thingy – I used to have one with different chili powders from Dave’s Insanity Gourmet – but I would use them on things like chicken and fries and not on ramen. You’ve got a serious ramen obsession going on!

  4. this gives me an idea! i always was so jealous of people eating the yummy indomie fried noodles, but since i cant eat fried stuff, im just going to buy it for the seasoning packets, and add it to regular unfried pasta! not as good as the real noodle but still! why didnt i think of that before?

    1. You could, although I think that sounds really cost-ineffective… Go buy a bottle of kecap manis, manis pedas, a thingy of fried shallot and some seasoning and you’ve got enough to make hundreds of doses of Indomie-style noodles.
