#380: Assi Brand Pho Vietnamese Noodle Soup

So here’s some interesting stuff. It doesn’t say its any particular flavor other than ‘pho.’ Not beef or veggies or chicken. I’m going to guess beef. The picture looks kinda beefy.

Serious labeling here – paste soup, powder soup. Kind of makes my comments here pointless. On the obverse of the powder soup is the list of ingredients.  I don’t think I’ve ever seen that, nor have I see the measurements as on these.

The noodles are cool looking – very uniform. The paste was asking for a little taste – very spicy!

They don’t seem like they’re fried. The broth and veggies are really really good – some spicy bit in there that have my tongue burning!!! Good quality going on here. 3.75 out of 5.0 stars.

  1. I got some of this in a bigger city a couple of weeks ago and as a pho lover who can’t get pho in her hometown, I love it! It is a very nice substitute for the “real thing” – however, I can’t find where to buy it online at all! I feel like I’ve searched high and low to no avail.

I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction…

  2. I ate this a few weeks ago. Lots of nice flavours in the broth, but I didn’t really like the noodles – I found them hard to eat because of their slimyness and refusal to absorb the broth’s flavour. I’m going to try it again though, I kind of like it.

    1. Yeah I wish they’d absorb the flavor more like, oh I dunno like the Vina Acecook noodles do. Thing is though that the Assi Brand stuff is more geared to be ‘health conscious’ and aren’t fried noodles usually and have way less fat.

  3. I love these! I get them at my local market, they always sell out. My favourite is the seafood though. Mmm. I tend to add more water after the noodles are cooked though. I find after a while it just ends up being goop. Good goop, but goop nonetheless.
