#200: Nongshim Bowl Noodle Soup Spicy Chicken Flavor

So this is the 200th instant noodle I’ve reviewed! So bright eyed and vaguely bushy tailed at 6:30am, here we go! I’d like to first thank Kit for picking #199 and #200 for my reviews and also for cruising us around and going to all of these Asian groceries around here. If you like the Ramen Rater, go see her Asian and otherwise snack reviews site at http://www.supertastysnacks.com – she just started it last week and she’s got her first few reviews up! Looking good!

So one packet of powder soup base. Very simple here. I should mention that these noodles are by Nongshim, which makes all sorts of products – mostly in Korea. But these noodles are made in the Unite States.

Quite a bit of that powder; I think it may be some extremely spicy stuff at first glance; usually Korean noodles that have a bright colored soup base like this that say spicy are tongue toasting…

I don’t think that people usually have this stuff with a couple of fried eggs in it – but I thought the chicken could use some egg. I found a couple little round thin pieces that weren’t from the egg in there. I think I figured out what they are from the ingredients: dehydrated pollock! Yes, little pieces of whitefish in chicken flavor noodle soup. Says CONTAINS: EGGS, MILK, FISH, WHEAT AND SOY. So I thought that was kind of weird. Anyways, on to the review. The noodles weren’t the best in the world – much like a Cup Noodles type of noodle. No backbone. The broth was perfect – not too salty and chicken taste was present. It wasn’t spicy at all to be honest as I had expected a death grip of heat I was somewhat pleased by this. There weren’t really any veggies to speak of, but what there were were pretty good. The fried eggs on top sealed the deal and made this one excellent bowl of noodles. I’m giving this one 4.5 out of 5.0 stars – yes really! This is the first Nong Shim Bowl Noodle I’ve reviewed, kind of surprising since it is so commonplace to see. I think I’m going to do more of these soon – as I begin the next 200 reviews! Get it here.

  1. Congrats on the 200th anniversary. Much success to Kit with her new blog. I hope to be visiting there soon. By the way, 6 monyhs ago your ‘Ramen Rater” blog got me interested in sampling the local oriental stores ramen offerings. A very hearty “Thank you”. I will never think of ramen the same way again. Keep up the great blog!
