#118: Paldo Bibim Men Oriental Style Noodle

So sometimes I’m looking for some new ramen and see it but it only seems to come in a 5 pack. Nowhere else in the noodle aisle do they have it… That’s really annoying! This was one such variety but I finally found it at a new Asian market I found today out of nowhere across from 99 Ranch Market in Edmonds. Anyways, here’s Paldo brand Bibim Men Oriental Style Noodle

So only one packet. The directions are to cook the noodles and then drain them, wash them under cold water and then put the goopy contents of this packet with them and stir.

See the goopy contents? On the package it mentions now with 8% more apple juice and also has a pic of a hot pepper.

Finished stuff (click image to enlarge). Well, I’m certainly glad I didn’t get 5 of them. It’s interesting a very different; it’s cold noodles with a slightly apple tasting and spicy flavor. Still, not really my thing. I might like them better hot but still not sure. The end result is 2.5 out of 5.0 stars. It’s really neat and cool to see something so different than what I usually get, but really not that great or terrible.

  1. Uhhh, i found this today in an asia store. Im really exited to try it, since i really like the Paldo stuff and i also like cold ramen. Apple soulds very intresting and unusal – cant wait to try it!

  2. These are by far my favorite noodles for a hot summer day. Bibimmen is a pretty standard Korean dish, and as noted by Mike, the sauce is quite similar to BiBimNengMyun (which is what the Doong Ji Cold Noodles are). It is basically sweetened Korean chili paste. The key is – as Joon noted – to have the noodles slightly al dente and extra cold. Any standard Korean household would probably serve it as hinted on the picture on the package – with julienned cucumbers, julienned lettuce, and most essential – half a hard boiled egg.

  3. I just had this tonight and it is awesome! I’d give it closer to 4/5 or 4.5/5. The sauce definitely reminds me of the sauce from Nong Shim Doong Ji Cold Noodles in Chili Sauce which I am a huge fan of. The major difference to me seems to be the noodles; this Paldo brand has ramen noodles while Nong Shim has air-dried, chewy noodles. In any case, Paldo is giving Indomie a run for its money in terms of my favorite brand now.

  4. I do alot of that and sea salt, it does have a spicy taste to it.
I skipped the wash with cool water part and it still tastes nice.
mINE MAY be diffrent due to my sauce package wassnt clear and stuff
but i tasted a bit of tangerine in the mix and spice and apple

  5. i like to add slices of cucumber or some other vegetable like bean sprouts with fresh hot green peppers and boiled egg. it tastes delicious!

  6. This is my personal favorite instant noodle – the key is to have it SUPER COLD on a hot day. I prepare an ice water bath and dunk the noodles in the ice water. You want it al dente and the ice tightens up the noodles to a nice chewy texture. Yum.
