#1868: Marutai Kuroma-yu Tonkotsu Kumamoto Ramen

Here’s another one that was sent to me by Javier over at Box From Japan – thanks! Box From Japan is a subscription service – you can get a box sent to you every month with some great noodles within! Today it’s a tonkotsu variant, Kumamoto style! It’s known for a blending of two different kind of garlic which are fried in something called mayo oil which bring out a black color – sounds interesting! Let’s check it out!

Detail of the side panels (click to enlarge). Contains pork. To prepare, add contents of powder sachet and boiling water to fill line. Cover and steep 3 minutes. Add in contents of oil sachet. Stir and enjoy!

Detail of the lid (click to enlarge).

The noodle block.

The dry soup base sachet.

A fluffy tan powder.

A liquid sachet.

Thick and dark.

Finished (click to enlarge). Added spring onion and bbq pork. The noodles hydrated well. They were on the lighter and thinner side but pretty good. The broth was very nice – a tasty tonkotsu with some nice garlicky notes to it – a good bowl. 4.0 out of 5.0 stars. JAN bar code 4902702004217.
