#1550: Ibumie Penang White CurryMee

During a trip to 99 Ranch recently (my son wanted to get my wife some Christmas gifts), I happened down the noodle aisle and found these! Ibumie CurryMee! Wow – white curry on the shelves so nearby! Can’t complain about that!

They’re sold in 4-packs and have this neat little lesson on the history of Penang! Just a side note – didn’t have any of the nice garnish to accompany so had this that day. The image is with the noodles all prettied up from the bowl I ate today. Basically just saying I tried it with the curry paste stirred in without any additions prior to this today’s pic. Let’s have a look inside Ibumie CurryMee!

Here’s the import/distributor’s sticker from the back of the 4 pack (click image to enlarge). Contains shrimp. What’s interesting here is that the distributor has their own bar code where underneath is a different one. The 12 digit bar code is widely used in the west while a 13 digit is used elsewhere. This can make scanners go wacko discerning which is which!

Here’s the back of one of the individual packs (click image to enlarge). To prepare, add noodles to 350ml boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. Add contents of sachets and stir gently. Enjoy!

The noodle block.

A smaller seasoning sachet.

The soup base has a slight shrimp scent.

A much bigger sachet.

Non dairy creamer.

Finally, the paste.

Thick and oily with a deep, rich color.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added fishball, tau pok, coriander, bean sprout and Chinese long bean. The noodles have a good texture and gauge. They have a light chew and are soft with no crumble. The broth is quite nice – has a full and rich flavor. Spicy but not extremely spicy – wish it were a bit spicier. Excellent curry taste! 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. EAN bar code 9555050300101.

  2. Hey Mr. Ramen Rater, I just bumped into you while surfing the internet…I just brought some of these White Curry Mee packets back with from Malaysia recently, and I tried to find them online…see if I could order some here. I see you bought some at .99 Ranch??? Just wondering where that store may have been? I live in LA, so I’m going to check out the closest .99Ranch to me, which happens to be in Van Nuys. Anyway, I’m stoked to know I may be able to find it! Such damn good noodles! I’d like to buy a case. Or 2… Just signed on to your facebook page by the way… Good Stuff! Seeya!
