#1271: Prima Taste Singapore Chilli Crab La Mian

At the beginning of this year, I’d never tried any of their products. When I did, I was blown away; so much so that they ended up ranking 1st and 2nd place on my Top Ten Instant Noodles Of All Tiume 2013 Edition list. I’m very curious how this one will fare. Chilli Crab is considered to be the signature dish of Singapore. To ring in the new year, I thought I’d start out with this one. I decided to post it right when the clock strikes midnight the very first time of 2014. Where’s that? Turns out it’s in Kiribati, which is GMT+14! For those in my timezone which is GMT-8 (Seattle time), that will be 2am on December 31st. With that, I wish everyone a happy and prosperous 2014 – let’s check this out! By the way – I just found out there are a couple new ways to cook this one – check them out here!

The back of the package (click image to enlarge). Contains crustaceans, egg products, peanuts, sesame, soybeans and wheat. To prepare put sachets into boiling water for 3 minutes then boil noodle in 500ml water for 6 minutes. Drain. Combine chilli crab oil with noodles then add the chilli crab sauce and combine.

The noodle block, big and round. Usually you’re looking at 3 minutes to cook, but these require 6 minutes.

The chilli crab oil sachet.

The scent makes me think of crab – very buttery scent.

The chilli crab sauce sachet.

Has a sweet and spicy aroma which was really nice. I should note – the pics of the sachet contents in the bowls haven’t been boiled for 3 minutes. The one in my review on the other hand were.

Finished (click image to enlarge). Added freshly boiled crab meat, diced Fresno chilli pepper, sweet onion, tomato and green onion. The noodles have an excellent chewiness and gauge. The flavor is really good – sweet, spicy, crabby. Has a nice almost buttery component as well. The flavor coats the noodles well and has a very rich depth I enjoyed thoroughly – a very premium feel and it all works together perfectly. I’m impressed with this one – comparable in flavor and quality to the other two they make that are one the 2013 top ten list. 5.0 out of 5.0 stars. UPC bar code 8886350067908.

  1. I’d rate this more around 3. there was just something funky about them. I’ll go back to my Shin Ramyun gourmet spicy and spicy seafood flavors as my 5 stars.
