#601: Wei Chuan Instant Noodle Soup Tomato & Vegetables Flavor

Onward to #700! This is one of many sent to me by Michelle L. of New York! Thank you! Never seen this brand before – let’s give it a try!

Here’s the back of the package (click image to enlarge).

Seasoned oil on left and powdered seasoning and veggie packet on right.

Made this one by following the instant directions.

The broth was wonderful – very tomato soup-like. Tasted great! The veggies were great too  – I especially liked the cabbage. Great stuff! 4.0 out of 5.0 stars!

I bet it smells rad in there!

This is epic indeed!

  1. So I’ve scanned the ingredients, and… is it possible? NO MSG? It still has a few artificial sounding ingredients in the noodles, but I don’t think I have EVER seen ramen without MSG! And it’s vegetarian! This is a rare find.

    1. First of all, let me say that I hold the belief that MSG is not harmful since there are no human studies that have shown so.

Although this product contains no MSG, technically, it does contain “yeast powder” which has naturally occuring glutamates. Manufacturers often use ingredients that sound better then MSG, but are essentially the same thing. Some examples are “autolyzed yeast extract”, “hydrolyzed soy protein”, “yeast extract”, etc.. there are more. In addition, MSG and its similar names are not the only things that contain glutamates. Mushrooms, cheese, soy sauce, corn, and even your own body produces it naturally. Theres no way to avoid it, so i wouldnt worry about it. The most detrimental thing in the ramen is the fat and sodium content, and frankly, the sodium content can often be reduced by adding more MSG, thus adding more flavor without more sodium.

  2. Hmm, ginger oil! Sounds tasty, never heard of that before. Id love to be able to get ahold of those tasty garlic flavored oils and such for cooking but never seem to be able to find them..especially the ones with the little pieces of onion and stuff.. mm so good.
