Re-Review: Ottogi Bekse Curry Myon

Here’s another one that Nick from OrderRamen.com sent along. Curry’s very high on my favorite spices list – let’s see how this one does today. I decided I wanted it to be a little stronger than normal, so I omitted 1/4 cup of water.

This one has noodles that appear to be thick but also broad.

Veggies on the left, powder seasoning on the right.

A good amount of veg and powder. The powder has a nice curry smell!

Click image to enlarge. Here we are. The noodles are pretty good – thick and they soaked up a lot of the flavor. The broth was a little spicy and had a nice curry flavor – I think it would’ve been better with even less liquid and maybe a thickener. The veggies were okay but not a lot. Altogether, I liked it but it could’ve used a bit more of something or other. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars.

Hey look – this guy uses Ramyonsari to make this dish.

Deadly hot curry!

  1. Just tried these today…drained the water, added about 3/4 or so of the spice packet — delicious! Possibly my favorite so far.

  2. About this Ramen, this is by far my favorite. I only use 2 cups of water, cook the noodles for 2 min and let them cool in the bowl. By the time they have cooled they have absorbed a lot of the curry and are A-MAZING…by far my favorite!

    1. Have you tried the KOKA curry? That one was pretty good – I must say that the Ottogi one is really good as long as you use a different ratio of water like you’re doing – I like my curry strong.

I like your tactic on the cooling/cooking time. I do the same thing – I like to eat and type at the same time so I have to have everything all ready to go or the noodles will get all engorged and funky. One thing you can do too – you can ‘steep’ almost any noodle you can get, so basically just boil water, put everything in a bowl and cover for a few minutes. The noodles come out slightly different too.

  3. =D good review, might try one day. this is off topic but, =( it’s hard getting ramen in West Africa… >.< the only brands here are this shrimp kind with a panda on the front (never bought it, never really looked at the name) and this other brand that i bought, never read the package… i know stupid of me, but one of the products you reviewed is the same company… last time i looked it was the only item for the company you reviewed… which doesn't narrow it down. it tasted funny though, think it was the base mix packaging that did it. wish there was more variety than shrimp, shrimp, shrimp, and the 10 packs of chicken that taste funny…..trying really hard to get people to send me ramen for christmas… it isn't working.

      1. next time i’m in the city I will be sure to check all the names to see if you have already reviewed, or if you could get them cheaper (pretty expensive to ship to the US from here… or it would have to wait a few months O.o

          1. ok stickers are good. would be awesome if more people got interested in this site, because then T-shirts could come into play =D

          2. ok i was completely oblivious to that. it is sad that your reader base you constantly have to point things out to… either we are unobservant… or we are unobservant. it seems like a question is always “nice, have you reviewed these?” response is 50% of the time, “yes. go to the drop down category menu and you can find it there.”

          3. hm odd suggestion but maybe you can experiment with borders around the section selection at the top as opposed open space, not sure how you would feel about that change. it sometimes does wonders even if its a very thin line (though as you said it may just be a overload of info) not sure if you have complete control over this or not but if you made the page a little bigger (less border picture showing) you could add the search and category selection up with all the links, so people are less confused possibly? and maybe on the list page at the bottom when you finish the next say something like “trying to find specific products? use the category drop down box on the right sidebar.” though i can almost bet you it still wouldn’t be used until you say to use it… silly people.
