#304: MAMA Phở Bò Rice Noodles With Artificial Beef Flavor Vietnamese Style

Phở bò? Here we go! I like the picture on the lid – looks very inviting and fresh and tasty. We shall see how it tastes! Join me won’t you? WON’T YOU?

The lovely fresh paradise on the lid is represented in reality by two packets – one seasoned oil and a dry packet with powder a rehydratables.

Was surprised there was no ‘just veggies’ packet…

Bam. Two fried eggs. Bam. A little Chef Paul Prudhomme’s Magic Vegetarian seasoning on them.  Noodles? Primo excellente – nice and broad rice noodles, although nothing like you’d find at a local greasy phở joint. Broth was nice and lively too – hints of basil were there and had a nice beef broth flavor. The veggies were slim – a little carrot and onion. I liked it fine, but it could use a little work. 3.5 out of 5.0 stars. Find it here.

  1. Need your help. I’m searching websites in order to purchase this amazing mama brand pho bo artificial seasoning powder vietamese style. All I want is the seasoning packet, not the noodles and I can’t find it anywhere. I see the cup of noodles, but not just the seasoning packet. I am specifically looking for the MAMA brand. Can you help me locate someone that sells it?

    1. I get this question quite a bit, not just for MAMA noodles but for others. The best advice I can give you is to buy a bulk amount of the packs with the noodles and just take out the seasoning and discard the noodles. I’ve NEVER heard of any companies only selling their seasonings other than a few Taiwanese ones and none of them are Pho.

  2. hi there i am enquiring if you had any international incidents with your pho bo mama product of thailand for export only. as i had two servings and then came out with a terrible rash that is as we speak spreading…my doctor prescribed telfast one tablet a day and i am seeing my doc tomorrow
cheers if you can let me know if we/you have any international incidents

  3. i think when eating the instant noodles like Pho, you should do the comparison as to how closely it comes to the flavor of the soup you can get at Pho restaurants. Have you have real Pho before? then you would know that they dont put veggies such as carrots in it. its a broth with spices like star anise, ginger, garlic, fish sauce, and herbs like thai basil cilantro, green onion, and sometimes culantro. the broad noodles are off because pho noodles are supposed to be skinny. would you say that if you had to add extra seasoning on your own that you didnt like the original seasoning at all? kinda like what people do with stuff that they dont like, douse it with cheese or with hotsauce.

    1. Oh yes I’ve had Pho before – I’m in the northwest where we have a lot of little Pho joints up and down the I-5 corridor. Nothing like the real thing – the packaged instant versions sometime smell like it but really don’t do it justice.
      Hey what’s culantro?
