#102: Indomie Soto Mie Flavour Instant Noodles

I thought I’d already reviewed this stuff but apparently not, so here we go with Soto Mie flavor. This is one of the few varieties of Indomie instant noodles that you don’t drain the noodles with.

Seasoning powder, chili powder and seasoning oil.

Here they are, naked and awaiting the pain of scalding hot noodle!

Click image to enlarge. So first off, salty flavor here is off the hook – I mean its almost not tolerable. What’s funny too is that it says it has 680 grams of salt – not milligrams. 680 grams would be a disturbingly large amount! Surprisingly, this is a low amount of sodium. Why does it taste so salty when others have 1000 or more milligrams of sodium? Who knows. Anyways, its very salty and that kind of overwhelms the whole thing. Surprised to be giving such a low rating, but this particular Indomie product is getting a 1.5 out of 5 stars. Get some here.

  1. It’s BY FAR the best of the bunch, actually! You probably should add a little more water, since it’s noodle soup, not noodles; I like a strong, dominant flavour, so I add less than the package tells you to.
Maybe they translated the amount of water also wrong? Cause your Soto Mie in the photo looks an awful lot like mine, and probably would generally call for more water…

  3. Hey Hans,
I agree with the saltiness of the noodles, and the extreme lemongrassy flavour. I didn’t like them either at first, but I tried adding a bizarre ingredient and viola — Sauteed Walrus Meat!! Hard to get where you are, but easy to get from any asian market in Australia. For some reason the porousness of walrus soaks up the saltiness, and its natural sweetness adds dimension to these noodles. Please try if you can!

  4. Hello!

I love the blog, and reddit does too! One piece of feedback (and not just from me): have a way to sort your posts by rating, and possibly have a ramen hall of fame!

Anyways, carry on doing the good work!
